The Absolute Beginner's Cookbook 2: Or Which Way Do I Fold Egg Whites?
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (February, 1995)

Average review score:

The Absolute Beginner's cookbook 2
I have been married for 45 years and consider myself a good cook;I have collected literally hundreds of various cookbooks during this time, and once I discovered this book, I have used recipes from it about 10:1 compared to my other cookbooks. For example, we enjoy Victor's Chicken almost on a weekly basis. We have also sent copies of the book to all of our five children and several nieces; perhaps this explains why it is out of print!

The Absolute Beginners Cookbook or How Long Do I Cook a Three Minute Egg?
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (December, 1989)
Authors: Jackie Eddy and Eleanor Clark

Absolute Beginner's Cookbook
I purchased this handy cookbook for my daughter's 12th birthday. The author has a clever sense of humor and an ability to break cooking vocabulary down into easy to understand words for those previously uninitiated in the kitchen. Now at age 22 and married for a year, my daugther said that she can't find her copy since moving several times and wants another for some of her favorite recipes. The book is not a children's cookbook, but for anyone new at cooking. I'd love to see a repeat printing.

African-American Odyssey with Audio CD, The: Combined Volume
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (17 December, 1999)
Authors: Darlene Clark Hine, William C. Hine, and Stanley Harrold
Average review score:

Great eye opener. MUST READ. Smooth reading.
To keep it plain and simple: After reading this book I've come to the conclusion that African-American history is an essential read, especially with this book. Often times, some of us may not think African-American history is rich or we may not really understand their situation in America today. This book changes that, it teaches that African-Americans have a rich history and that books like this must be read to understand their stance in American society today. GREAT BOOK.

After Suicide: Help for the Bereaved
Published in Paperback by Hill of Content Pub Co Pty Ltd (1995)
Authors: Dr. Sheila Clark and Sheila Clark
Average review score:

A Clinical Psychologist's perspective
I feel I am lucky as my only close exposure to suicide has been as a therapist to those who have lost their loved ones through suicide.

The helplesslessness that survivors feel is very often mirrored in those who try to help them through the most difficult periods. A therapist can often assist this process, but we're not there in the middle of the night when the aching and doubts are often strongest. This book can be, and it is set out in such a way that one can open it to any page and find words that help dispell the myths and taboos, words that soothe and heal, words that inspire and motivate, and words that nourish one's sense of self.

I wish I had access to this book years ago. I feel I could then have offered more of my clients a geneuinely practical, sympathetic, and motivating resource.

If you know someone who has lost somebody through suicide, if you have yourself, or if you are a mental health professional working with the traumatically bereaved- I strongly recommend you buy this book.

The Alchemy of Love
Published in Hardcover by TripleTree Publishing (15 December, 1998)
Authors: Elizabeth Engstrom and Alan M. Clark
Average review score:

Definitely Not Kansas
"The Alchemy of Love" by Elizabeth Engstrom and Alan M. Clark is a fascinating collection of stories accompanied by intriguing art work that together, you can never quite stop thinking about. They blend fantasy and reality is such a way that you are not sure when and where imagination takes over from rational thinking. In this book the written word intertwines with the visual picture so intimately you feel you know one by examining the other. It caused me to revisit and reexamine my definition of love on every level. It is more than an easy joy ride of a read with interesting illustrations. Although it is that, it is also like visiting a work of art that allows you to be swallowed up whole and participate in its essence. And what a trip it is. Definitely not Kansas. Not unless you consider that the wicked witch of the west is within each of us to some degree. And perhaps she is. And perhaps our perception of love and hate, hope and despair, are never further apart than our minds perception of what power these emotions hold over us. Each story and work of art suggests exactly that. I have added depth to my reality of what love is - might be - can do - and all because of these two artists who weave their tales much like a spider spins its web. These stories and works of art are interesting, intricate in design, and sometimes even deadly. In several of them I am left feeling like the fly who is caught, sucked in, left stunned. I like that feeling. It isn't one you are likely to forget. "The Alchemy of Love" isn't a book you are likely to forget either. It will change and transform you as only truly great artistry can.
